About Aeroyantra GIS Tools

Free calculators and converters for drone mapping, surveying and GIS work, built by the team behind the Aeroyantra drone mapping platform.

Who builds these tools

Aeroyantra Technologies Private Limited is a drone mapping company based in Delhi, India, founded in 2025. The Aeroyantra platform turns drone and 360-camera captures into orthomosaics, 3D models, point clouds, elevation models and site walkthroughs. We built these tools for the questions we answer every day while planning flights and checking data, and made them free for everyone.

How the calculations work

The method behind each tool:

Drone GSD Calculator
GSD in cm/px = (sensor width mm × altitude m × 100) / (focal length mm × image width px). Altitude is above the ground being mapped.
Camera FOV Calculator
FOV = 2 × atan(sensor dimension / (2 × focal length)), for horizontal, vertical and diagonal. Footprint = 2 × altitude × tan(FOV / 2) for a straight-down camera.
Drone Overlap Calculator
Forward overlap = 1 − (speed × photo interval) / footprint length. Side overlap = 1 − line spacing / footprint width.
Area Calculator
Polygon area on a spherical Earth model (radius 6,371 km), not a flat map, and perimeter from great-circle distances between vertices. KML/KMZ files are read with the same parser the Aeroyantra app uses.
UTM Zone Finder
Zone number from 6° longitude bands, latitude band letter from 8° bands, WGS84 EPSG code 326xx (north) or 327xx (south).
CRS Coordinate Converter
Transformations use proj4js with published EPSG definitions. Datum shifts use the published 3- or 7-parameter (towgs84) values; grid-file shifts are not available in the browser, so expect metre-level differences for some older datums.
Measurement Unit Converter
Exact conversion factors (1 ft = 0.3048 m; 1 acre = 4046.8564224 m²; 1 US survey foot = 1200/3937 m), the same table the Aeroyantra app uses.
Drone Image Metadata Viewer
EXIF, GPS and XMP tags are read from the image file in your browser (exifr). RTK status and accuracy come from the drone maker's XMP fields where present.

The results are for planning and checking. For survey-grade work, confirm critical values against your survey control and your processing software.

Your files and data

  • Calculations run in your browser. Images, KML and coordinate files you open are read on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.
  • We use Google Analytics to count visits and which tools are used, so we know what to improve. It does not see the contents of your files.
  • No account is needed, and we don't store your inputs or files.

Found a mistake?

Accuracy matters more to us than anything else on this site. If a result looks wrong, tell us the inputs you used and what you expected.
