GIS File Converter
Convert between KML, KMZ, Shapefile, GeoJSON, GPX and CSV. Drop a file, pick what you want out of it, and download the result. Everything runs in your browser, so your data never leaves your computer and there is no limit on file size.

Why it runs in your browser
Nothing is uploaded
Files are read and converted inside your browser tab. No server ever sees them, which matters when the data is under a confidentiality clause.
No size limit, no sign-up
There is no upload, so there is nothing to meter. Convert a 500 MB shapefile as easily as a 5 KB one, as often as you like.
Instant, and works offline
No queue and no round trip. Load this page once, disconnect from the internet, and it still converts.
Common conversions
Each of these has its own page explaining exactly what survives the conversion and what does not.
Formats it handles
KML.kml · Keyhole Markup Language
The XML format Google Earth uses. One readable text file that holds points, lines and polygons together with their names, descriptions and colours.
KMZ.kmz · Zipped Keyhole Markup Language
A KML file and its images, icons and overlays packed into a single zip with a .kmz extension. Smaller to send, and the one file carries everything it needs to draw.
Shapefile.shp · Esri Shapefile
The format every GIS reads. Not one file but a set: .shp for geometry, .dbf for the attribute table, .shx for the index and .prj for the coordinate system, which travel together in a zip.
GeoJSON.geojson · GeoJSON
The web's geospatial format: plain JSON that every mapping library, API and modern GIS reads directly. Always in WGS 84 longitude/latitude.
GPX.gpx · GPS Exchange Format
What handheld GPS units and fitness apps export: waypoints, routes and tracks, with elevation and timestamps.
CSV.csv · Comma-Separated Values
A spreadsheet table with a latitude and a longitude column. Only holds points unless the geometry is written out as WKT text.
AutoCAD DWG, Esri File Geodatabase and MapInfo TAB are not here. Those are closed binary formats that cannot be read in a browser without a server doing the work, and we would rather leave them out than upload your files to provide them.
